I have seen it claimed in many places that the following quote may be attributed to Calvin Coolidge and given to agents of New York Life Insurance Co. while he was a Board Member in 1932. Is this true?
Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not. Nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent! Genius will not. Unrewarded genius is almost a proverb! Education will not. The world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan "press on" has solved, and always will solve the problem of the human race. -Calvin Coolidge
The "persistence" quote was written by Calvin Coolidge in 1932 when he was on the Board of the New York Life Insurance Company. The quote was reproduced as a broadside (poster) and given to employees. The correct puncuation is as follows: "Nothing in the world can take the place of Persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and Determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan “Press On.” has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race."
